Canonical URL is valid

What the check finds

The canonical points at a URL that errors, so indexing is aimed at a page that does not exist.

Why it matters for AI answers

The canonical tag names the version to index. If that URL errors, search engines may ignore the tag or drop the page, and AI tools built on search lose the right version.

How to fix it

  1. Point rel="canonical" at a live URL that returns 200.
  2. On a standalone page, use a self-referencing canonical with its own URL.
  3. Check templates that build canonicals from paths, a common source of broken targets.
