Versions
AI Mode, initial Gemini-powered experience
Introduced as a dedicated conversational Search experience for deeper exploration and complex questions. AI Mode is a product feature with evolving underlying models, not an independent numbered model family.
Gemini 3.5 Flash default
Released
Google announced Gemini 3.5 Flash as the new default model in AI Mode globally in May 2026. This does not identify the exact backend used in a particular GeckoCheck capture.
Capabilities
Conversational search
Answers complex questions and supports follow-up questions while retaining the context of the search conversation.
Web-grounded exploration
Combines AI responses with links and supporting articles so users can explore sources beyond the synthesized answer.
Multimodal questions
Google describes an upgraded Search box that accepts inputs such as text, images, files, videos, and Chrome tabs. Availability follows the rollout and supported surfaces.
Interactive and task-oriented responses
Google announced generative interfaces such as visual tools, simulations, dashboards, and task trackers, alongside agentic search features. Individual features can have separate regional, subscription, and rollout limits.
Google AI Mode in GeckoCheck
GeckoCheck reads how Google AI Mode answers the queries a brand cares about: whether it names the brand, how it describes it, who it names instead, and which pages it cites.
Each model is read and graded on its own, because each answers differently. A brand's plan sets which models it tracks.
