Sonar
Perplexity’s in-house search-oriented model family. Its documented Sonar update was built on Llama 3.3 70B and tuned for factuality and readability. This describes that announced release, not an immutable backend for all Perplexity answers.
Selectable models in Pro Search
Perplexity’s reviewed help page lists Sonar, GPT-5, Claude Sonnet 4.6, and Gemini 3.1 Pro as examples. The provider controls the available selection, which can change; Perplexity is not a single fixed model version.
